December 2022
Meditation is a powerful practice with many benefits for our mind, body, and spirit. The ancient practice of meditation has been around for centuries. Still, it wasn’t until recently that the scientific community widely studied and accepted the health benefits of meditation. More and more people are turning to meditation for its various mental, physical, and spiritual health benefits.
In this blog, I’ll explore the various health benefits of meditation and provide tips and techniques for getting started and staying motivated.
Meditation is a practice of cultivating awareness and presence through mindfulness. It’s a way of tapping into our inner wisdom and connecting with our true selves. Meditation has been used in various cultures and traditions for centuries, but it has recently exploded in popularity thanks to its many proven health benefits.
Meditation is a simple practice, but it can be challenging. It takes dedication, practice, and a willingness to be in the present moment. But the rewards are worth it; regular meditation will improve physical and mental health and a greater sense of connection and peace.
The benefits of meditation are vast and varied. Let’s explore meditation’s three main health benefits: mental, physical, and spiritual.
The mental health benefits of meditation are perhaps the most widely studied and accepted by the scientific community. Studies have shown that regular meditation can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, improve cognitive function and concentration, and increase emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
Meditation can also help reduce the “fight or flight” response, allowing us to manage our reactions to stressful situations better. It can also help us view things from a different perspective and to be more compassionate and understanding toward ourselves and others.
The physical health benefits of meditation are also numerous. Studies have shown that regular meditation can reduce inflammation, improve cardiovascular health, and reduce the risk of heart disease. It can also help to improve sleep, lower blood pressure, and increase immunity.
Meditation has been shown to reduce the risk of certain types of cancer and can even help reduce chronic pain symptoms. It can also help to increase energy levels and improve overall physical well-being.
The spiritual health benefits of meditation are less widely studied but equally as powerful. Meditation can help us to connect with our inner selves, find stillness and peace, and to develop a sense of purpose and meaning in life. It also allows us to gain a greater sense of association with the natural world and to create a greater appreciation for the beauty and mystery of life.
There are many different techniques for meditation, but the most common is mindfulness meditation. Mindfulness meditation is a simple practice that involves focusing on the breath and being mindful of the present moment. Mindfulness meditation is done sitting or lying down with closed or open eyes.
Other popular techniques for meditation include body scan meditation, mantra meditation, visualization meditation, and yoga meditation. Each method has unique benefits and can cultivate a more profound sense of awareness and presence.
Starting a meditation routine can seem disheartening, but it doesn’t have to be. A few minutes and a peaceful place to sit or lie down are needed.
Once you’ve found a comfortable spot, focus on your breath. Notice the sensations of the breath as it enters and leaves your body. Allow your thoughts to come and pass without judgment or attachment. If you temporarily lose concentration, bring your attention back to the breath.
Start meditating for just a few minutes a day and gradually increase your practice as you become more comfortable.
There are many different types of meditation, ranging from traditional mindfulness meditation to more modern practices such as transcendental meditation and soul gazing. The kind of meditation you choose will depend on your preferences and goals. Some people prefer a more active approach, such as yoga or qigong, while others prefer more passive methods, such as mindfulness or visualization.
Numerous studies and scientific research back up the health benefits of meditation. Studies have shown that regular meditation can reduce inflammation, improve cognitive function, reduce stress and anxiety, and increase emotional intelligence. Meditation practice has also been linked to increased creativity and productivity, improved immunity, and better overall health and well-being.
If you’re looking for help getting started with meditation, plenty of apps and resources are available to help you. Books, yoga studios, meditation centers, and Apps are also great places to find guidance and support in your meditation practice.
The health benefits of meditation are vast and varied. From improved mental health to increased physical well-being, there are countless ways that this ancient practice can improve our lives.

A little about Chakras
December 2022
What are Chakras?
The word Chakra means disk or wheel in Sanskrit. These spinning wheels/discs of light are the concentrated energy centers of the body used in many ancient meditation practices. India is the origin of the chakra system between 1500 and 500 BCE. The detail of each chakra was recorded in the Vedas, one of the oldest spiritual texts in history. Seven main chakras run along the spine, although many believe there are 114 different chakras in the body.
Characteristics of each of the seven focal chakras include number, name, specific area of the spine, health focus, and color.
1) Muladhara, the Root chakra as it is known, is located at the root of the spine. It is responsible for security, safety, and survival. Its identifying color is red.
2) Svadhisthana, the Sacral Chakra, is located just underneath the navel. It is responsible for creativity, sexuality, pleasure, empathy, and emotional intelligence. Its identifying color is orange.
3) Manipura, or the Solar plexus chakra, is in the upper abdomen. It is responsible for self-esteem, confidence, and inner power. Its identifying color is yellow.
4) Anahata, better known as the Heart chakra, is located in the midpoint of the chest, near the heart. It is responsible for love, kindness, and compassion. Its identifying color is green.
5) Vishuddha, also known as the Throat chakra, is found in the area by the throat. It is responsible for communication, expression, and truth. Its identifying color is light blue.
6) Ajna, or the Third eye chakra, is located between your eyebrows. It is responsible for imagination, perception, and intuition. Its identifying color is indigo.
7) Sahasrara, also known as the Crown chakra, is found at the apex of the head. It is responsible for awareness, divinity, and spirituality. Its identifying color is violet.
Chakras should stay aligned and open for us to function emotionally and physically at an optimum level. There are many ways to unblock chakras. Meditation, yoga, breathing, affirmations, visualization, mudras, reiki, color therapy, diet, and crystals are some of the most common. Crystals are a quick way and powerful way to unblock chakras. Each chakra has different crystals that correspond to it.
Within the stresses of everyday life, it is rare to have fully balanced chakras. The good news is that practices and a plethora of knowledge are available to help with the how-to.

A look into the history of Meditation.
November 2022
The earliest evidence of the practice of meditation was discovered in wall art. Archaeologists discovered images of people sitting in what many of us would recognize as meditation positions. These images, dating from approximately 5,000 to 3,500 BCE, were found in the Indus Valley of what is now northern India and southern China.
The Vedas are the earliest documented written records of meditation. The Vedas are the most ancient Hindu scriptures. The Vedic Sanskrit writings were discovered in 1600-1500 BCE in subcontinent India.
From 600-500 BCE, meditation developed in Taoist China and Buddhist India. The historical figure Buddha lived from 563 to 483 BCE.
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali were compiled from 400-100 BCE. They outlined the eight limbs of yoga.
The scripture and epic poem that discusses meditation, the philosophy of yoga, and how to live a spiritual life, the Bhagavad Gita, was written from 400-200 BCE.
The first meditation hall opened in Japan in 653 BCE. Japanese Buddhism began to evolve in the 8th and 9th centuries. It was turning from more old-school teachings to more reasonable beliefs.
Ancient teachings started reaching scholars in the West in the 18th century.
In 1927 the Tibetan Book of the Dead was published. It is considered the most famous Buddhist text in the West.
Transcendental(mantra) and Vipassana(mindfulness) are popularized from the 1950s to the 1980s.
